This Losar, we raffled off an antique t'hanka valued at $2,000. We are pleased to announce that Laura Smith has won this raffle.
This beautiful t'hanka depicts a rare healing form of Vajrapani surrounded by the five wisdom Garudas, each subjugating the nagas. It comes from a healing practice called Chag-Dor Lu-Dul, which specializes in healing practices that control the nagas. This practice is from the Konchog Chindu lineage within the Northern Treasures Terma collection. The central diety, Vajrapani, holds a naga in his hands and mouth and tramples the nagas underfoot. Medicine Buddha, Amitabha, and Guru Rinpoche, in the form of Pema Onbar, are above.
According to Lama Dawa Rinpoche's divination, this t'hanka came from the King's Monastery in Lo Mustang, Nepal, and is 228 years old. It was removed from the monestary during recent renovations. It is painted with precious mineral pigments (lapis Lazuli, cinnebar, and malachite) and is bordered by a cotton burlap fabric and hangs with wooden rods.
