Creating the World through Skillful Means: Accomplishments & Aspirations
The Peace Mandala is a powerful Buddhist monument that possesses the energetic ability to bestow blessings that will permeate the five elements throughout the world. The blessings of the Peace Mandala will be vast and powerful as they are carried on the strong currents of air and water to restore balance and harmony—ecologically, socially and personally—for all of the earth's inhabitants around the globe.
The Peace Mandala, traditionally known as a Vajrakilaya (P'hurba) Mandala, will be a full-scale, three dimensional mandala similar to the only one of its kind, which is in Bhutan. Under the direct guidance of Lama Dawa Rinpoche and Pema Dorje Rinpoche, the mandala will be constructed using traditional methods assuring its authenticity and efficacy.
With the blessings of our teachers and the support of our donors, we have made steady progress towards creating the Peace Mandala Project.
Timeline of Accomplishments
2003
Expert wood carvers in Nepal and Bhutan created key elements for the mandala.
2006
We obtained nonprofit status, developed our new website, and consulted Bhutanese artisans about the mandala design.

2007
The ideal location was found and purchased along the bluffs of the upper Mississippi River.
2008
The well was drilled and electrical installation to the land completed. We acquired the precious Burmese Buddha statue that will be housed near the entrance to greet all visitors as they approach the Peace Mandala Temple.
2009
Lama Pema Dorje Rinpoche joined the project as Director of the Peace Mandala construction. Surveys, zoning permits and designs were completed for the buildings. Excavation of the site was completed and the first building foundation poured.
2010
Stonework and cement capping was completed on the Buddha House and marble tiles were purchased for the Buddha’s throne. Electrical installation to the Buddha House and Temple location was completed.
Lama Dawa Rinpoche, Pema Dorje Rinpoche and Tim Clark refined the architectural drawings for the Peace Mandala Temple.
Aspirations
With the excavation and foundation completed, we are ready to finish construction of the Buddha House and enthrone the Burmese Buddha statue on the land this year.
Consultation with Lama Dawa Rinpoche, Pema Dorje Rinpoche, our architect, general contractor, and engineers continues to ensure the longevity, endurance, and appropriate construction of the temple structure to house the mandala.

Once the Buddha House is completed, construction of the temple for the Peace Mandala will begin.
Construction of the actual mandala will begin under the direction of Pema Dorje Rinpoche.
We will offer teachings on the land and a retreat house nearby for student’s to complete private retreats.

Become a Part of this Special Project!
Careful planning goes into every step of the construction to ensure low costs and we are drawing on the rich local expertise and craftsmanship to complete the project in an environmentally sound way.
We are committed to develop the P’hurba Peace Mandala Project, and all projects of Saraswati Bhawan, without incurring any debt. In this way, we hope to avoid the potential of financial adversity in the future. Our funds are used solely for the fulfillment of our mission through our projects and activities.
To date we have paid in full $243,155 towards the accomplishment of the Peace Mandala Project, thanks
to our dedicated sangha and donors. To complete the construction of the Buddha House and Peace Mandala Temple buildings it is estimated we will need an
additional $698,000.
“If you build one Vajrakilaya peace mandala, it is as virtuous as building
108 stupas. Those who wish to build, and those working toward building,
and those who are donating money to build - all three will reach the
liberation stage together.” - Lama Dawa Chhodak Rinpoche
